Biography

Andrew Gagiu is a versatile cellist and pedagogue performing extensively across the Midwest. In addition to his current positions with the Traverse City Philharmonic, Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra, and Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, he has performed with orchestras including the Grand Rapids, Rockford, and Peoria Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Gagiu’s extensive chamber music experience also includes collaborations with contemporary ensembles Birds On A Wire and Foot In The Door, including a performance of Michael Torke’s Telephone Book with Hartt Dances (2023).

A dedicated educator, Mr. Gagiu maintains an active private studio out of his home and in the Kent County School District. He is a registered Suzuki teacher (Books 1-8) who has served on the faculty of music schools including the YMI Suzuki School of Music, the Illinois Community Music Academy, and Kalamazoo Kids In Tune.

Andrew is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign studying under Daniel McDonough. He holds a Master of Music in Cello Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy emphasis from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music from Western Michigan University.
